what happens if you smoke a weed seed

The term sinsemilla is derived from the Spanish words “sin” (meaning “without”) and “semilla” (meaning “seed”) to mean as stated, without seed. This word has been associated with seedless cannabis flower since the 1970’s in North America but there is some evidence of it dating back further to countries like India! To clear up a few myths; sinsemilla is NOT a strain or genetics. It is a female cannabis plant that has not been exposed to male plants (aka not fertilized).

I found 10+ seeds in my weed – These seeds will give you a 50/50 chance of female/male plants. Usually these seeds occur from male plant fertilization. If you have the time and knowledge, grow them! Make sure you look out for those nanners as you get into flowering. Nanners are male pollen sacks that look like little bananas!

Saving the Seeds

This doesn’t mean it is bad for your health but we advise against smoking seeds. Please remove them as you see them – you may find them crushed up in your grinder! The presence of seeds does mean that the total mass of smokable weed is compromised with decreased cannabinoid content and quite a few unwanted seeds. Think about it this way: If you purchase an ounce of cannabis and it comes filled with seeds, you are paying for the seeds which are less desirable than the cannabis flower that you were expecting.

Growing from home allows you to control many factors, so you can expect higher quality cannabis. If you are able to grow indoors, theres an even lower chance of your cannabis plants getting fertilized, as you would have to have the males in the tent/ grow box with them! When using a Grobo, you never have to worry about male plants being too close to your females.

The other option is that the plant has self pollinated. This is rare but that still does happen. This self pollination usually happens when the plant is stressed while undergoing the budding phase but sometimes it can manifest because of genetics or light leak during necessary dark times. This is often referred to as a hermaphrodite plant.

Long-term effects of smoking weed seeds are even worse! Marijuana seeds produce carcinogenic chemicals and toxins which can damage your respiratory system.

Here are a few things that can be done:

What to do with cannabis seeds?

The long answer is that there is no good reason for you to smoke cannabis seeds unless you are looking forward to getting a headache afterwards.

The bottom line is that it is not a good idea to smoke your weed seeds.

If you have had these thoughts, then you are not alone! Most marijuana consumers at some point in their weed consumption journey start to wonder if it is safe to smoke cannabis seeds.

As we’ve just highlighted, smoking cannabis seeds can cause headaches. But that’s not the only side effect to worry about. Throat irritation is another common risk of smoking marijuana seeds. Depending on the severity of the irritation, you could end up suffering from a persistent cough and sore throat.

This article shall shed more light on that.

In addition to its healing properties, cannabis also appeals to recreational users. The plant contains certain psychoactive compounds like THC, which are known to induce euphoria. But here’s the thing – cannabis seeds contain low concentrations of the medically beneficial compounds in marijuana.

ii. The experience is far from enjoyable.

Once oxidized, these compounds combine with the seeds and are inhaled along with the smoke produced. Long-term smoking (of cannabis seeds and any other parts of the plant) could increase your risks of developing chronic illnesses like lung cancer and heart disease.

Cannabis nugs (short form for nuggets) refer to the colas’ smokable parts, or simply the bud material.

As we’ve already highlighted, cannabis seeds are formed in the nugs during pollination. Researchers have established that consuming marijuana seeds along with the nuggets, might trigger headaches. Now, that might get you wondering, can you then consume cannabis seeds that are not part of weed nuggets? Well, these seeds are not recommended either. Besides causing headaches, the seeds might also trigger a host of mental and physical discomfort.

The female reproductive parts in a hermaphrodite cannabis plant are not an issue at all. The problem lies with the male parts, which might cause unwanted pollination. By and large, you should avoid smoking cannabis seeds, particularly seeds found within cannabis nugs.
