Questions & Answers

This product is intended for use in the spring. You risk burning your lawn if you apply in July.

This product is a fertilizer and weed killer, not a seed that grows new grass.

It depends on whether you’re talking about the weed triple action or the seeding built-in. Bermudagrass, zoysia, St. Augustine, bentgrass, dichondra, kikuyugrass, bahiagras, and lippia are not recommended for seeding with the built for seeding. However, it is designed to be used on Kentucky bluegrass, Tall Fescue, Perennial Ryegrass, Centipedegrass, and other similar grasses. fine fescue (creeping, reddish-brown, chewing, hard)

Before applying Scotts Turf Builder Triple Action, pets and children should be removed from the area. After the product has been watered in and allowed to dry, they can return to the treated area. Wait 24 hours if you’re unsure about the drying time; once the area has dried, additional rain or water won’t dislodge the product or make it reactivate.

Unfortunately, our neighbors’ poor lawn care resulted in a lot of weeds and dandelions this Spring, resulting in a lot of weeds and dandelions for us

We put this Turf Builder to the test and were blown away by the outcome. All of the dandelions were gone after three treatments, and our lawn has never looked better. I was a little worried because it’s a bit pricey, but the end result is well worth it. You will not be disappointed if you use this method to obtain a beautiful green lawn. I strongly advise you to do so.

My grass grew faster as a result of using it as directed, but the clover and crabgrass are still alive and well. terrible.

When there is a chance of rain, only use it. br>In order for this to work, it must be thoroughly watered into your lawn. Hosting it isn’t going to cut it. When I know there will be a soaker storm, I put it down. All weeds die after a good rain, and my lawn looks great in about three days. 4 days. br>If you’re in the middle of a drought, don’t waste your money. This necessitates forethought and the ability to dance in the rain.

Wow! I wasn’t expecting it to go so smoothly! I bought it because of the reviews, but I wasn’t expecting it to work as well as it did! You can skip ahead to the before and after photos if you don’t want to read any further

br>When I bought my house in November, I had no idea that it would turn out to be a weedy mess in the spring in a subdivision of perfectly manicured lawns. My front yard was patchy and covered in what I believe was chickweed, and I’m sure the neighbors cursed my dandelions and their seeds in the before picture. br>After a morning dew and 24 hours before a light shower was forecasted, I applied as directed. We’ve mowed it four times and bagged it to prevent the spread of dandelion seeds. br>I’m about to place an order for patch master for the large bare spot at the photo’s edge, but according to the Weed n Feed instructions, it won’t be ready for another two weeks. I believe that once it has completed its task, my front yard will blend in seamlessly with the rest of the neighborhood!.

Scott’s work looks fantastic in my yard, and I’ll be using it again in the fall.

This was a complete waste of money. I didn’t get rid of a single weed in the entire lawn.

I have yet to see any results because I only applied it to my lawn today. Last season, I used Scotts brand weed killer and still had dandelions growing everywhere. Throughout the Spring and early Summer. Isn’t it because my next-door neighbor lets millions of them cover his entire yard, all of which go to seed and into the air? The pellets are really small, easy to apply with a spreader on a non-windy day, and I’m hoping this Scotts item does a better job than previous Scotts (all for weed control) did. We had a brutal February, and most lawns are crispy brown due to below-normal temperatures and too much snow with no sunshine. Then the weather finally broke, and we got some sunshine. Once my lawn started to show signs of green, I did a low (fall setting) mow to remove the top layer of dead winter thatch. I waited another week before mowing again today to remove more of the brown thatch on top. After that, fertilizer was applied. There is rain in the forecast, which will be fantastic if it happens. It’s too early to activate the sprinkler system, so I’m hoping Mother Nature provides enough moisture to keep the pellets moist. Today I’m performing the Rain Dance. We’ll find out in three days. If this product helped to green up the lawn in 4 days, it was a success. Dandelions have already sprouted in planter beds, so we’ll see if this product can keep the lawn safe. As I previously stated, previous Scott attempts at weed control have failed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by fdk344 from Worked great. Renovation details: Early June seeding. After using Quikpro on about 4500-5000 sq ft of Roughstalk Bluegrass (poa trivialis), I used “Step One for Seeding” to spot seed a couple dozen areas. I used Scott’s PA seed, I think it’s the same as the NE seed. Previous lawn health: My lawn mostly consists of K-31, perennial rye, and KY bluegrass. I have some warm season grasses as well, but I hate them and I’ve wiped most of them out with Q4. I’ve been killing quack grass, nimblewill, JP stiltgrass as well. Still haven’t gotten the mousear chickweed to stop coming back in the spring. Method I didn’t disturb the soil after Quikpro. I waited, watched. Hand weeded some smaller weeds and, top coated everything with mushroom soil. I Applied Scotts Step 1 Starter after rolling/seeding/strawing – probably right after the last rolling. Results: I had no whitening of any of cool season grasses. The only whitening I saw was on the nutsedge and purslane that came up. Even with the nutsedge that came up, considering, I had pretty good suppression of purslane, smartweed, chickweed, and crabgrass. It didn’t affect the oat grass in the topsoil or the mushrooms for that matter. Pretty satisfied with result, great germination, less where I had washout which isn’t the products fault.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Ryan600 from So disappointed I loamed and seeded plow damage, and over seeded my entire lawn.. my local garden center recommended step 1 for seeding. Reading the package it said for newly seeded and over seeded lawns. It also said that whitening can occur.. but this is crazy, my whole lawn looks terrible. I hope this is truly only temporary.. I can not recommend this product.

Rated 2 out of 5 by avrick from Disappointing results I’ve used Scotts products for years with very good results. This product has discolored all my new planted grass from last fall. My lawn has multiple spots of yellow and yelowish white grass. Extremely disappointing. and there is clover that was not killed as anticipated.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Mt830 from The worst We bought this to stop crabgrass and weeds. After applying it the next week we had a ton of dandelions come out. It seems the weeds love it. We will never purchase it again

Rated 1 out of 5 by SCchelmsford from Don’t Use This Product I spent a lot of time, sweat, and money on preparing my front lawn for reseeding, and over seeding. I did everything right, except find and read these other reviews for this product. Top soil was raked evenly, this Step 1 for Seeding was spread according to the correct distribution, seed was spread. Whole lawn was rolled, fluffed up, and watered properly at dawn and dust. It has been 17 days without a single seed germanization. Nothing! My local garden store recommended this product, and I have since shared the story with them and to never recommend this product to anyone again. Extremely dissapointed with this product!

Rated 1 out of 5 by JPH 13 from Yellow/white streaking across my yard! Put this down over two weeks ago and my yard looks terrible! I have light yellow streaks across the front yard, so embarrassing!

Rated 1 out of 5 by Another Unhappy Customer from Total Disaster! Bought 3 – 15,000 square foot – 4 step programs for our large lawns, a substantial investment. Chose Step 1 for seeding solely on the recommendation of our nursery rep. We are just sick to see we have the same problem so many others have faced with the yellow spotting after checking the problem on line. The lawn looks horrible and is getting worse 3 weeks after the yellowing started. Previous reviews indicate Scotts has known about this problem for a while and should be advising retailers of this problem. Had we known this we never would have purchased. Scott’s – what can you do to make this right with your customers.

Rated 1 out of 5 by ChrisN from Turns grass whitish yellow I applied this product to my entire lawn area, including some newly loamed areas, and then had the new loam hydroseeded. It’s been 16 days since the hydroseed and I have seen 0% germination, and patches of my existing grass have turned a whitish yellow. I’m really disappointed with this product so far, and I’m concerned that the hydroseed won’t germinate and I’ll have wasted money not only on the Scotts product but also the hydro seed.
